July 1 marks the official day that Joey Curtis takes the helm as the Berryville High School principal. Mr. Curtis is no stranger to the halls of BHS. Having served as the assistant principal for the last six years, he is more than a familiar face to students and staff. He is a Bobcat graduate and is raising his family right here in Berryville where he gew up. Curtis started his career as a basketball coach and teacher in Waldron, AR in 2009. "I moved back home in the fall of 2014 and started working at Berryville High School as a junior boys basketball coach , senior high boys soccer coach, and health teacher," Curtis said.
"My wife, Candace Curtis, is the dyslexia coordinator at Berryville. We have three children, Grant (11), Alison (11), and Ryan (8). "
"As a proud, born-and-raised Bobcat, I’ve always known that I wanted to work with young people. I firmly believe that every student has the potential to achieve great things, and that a strong education is the pathway to realizing those possibilities," he stated. Mr. Curtis has played an instrumental leadership role as the assistant principal in the uptick of academic success at the high school and the tremendous growth scores in student data. In addition to being focused on academics, Curtis also wants to ensure an environment where students and staff members want to be. "I also believe that school should be fun. Mr. Wolf and I are going to be meeting with students to come up with some ways to keep things fun this year! We have a wonderful staff at BHS and I could not be more excited to get started. "
Let's welcome Mr. Joey Curtis as the new Berryville High School principal!
